Today a true giant of the entertainment world passed away.
Jerry Lewis died yesterday aged 91 of natural causes. He will be remembered as a comic genius, innovative filmmaker and tireless fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy.
He first came to fame as part of the comic-music act with singer Dean Martin in 1946. Their collaboration last for ten years in which time they made 16 movies. After their split Lewis went on to make many more movies, live appearances and television shows right up until his death.
Memorable Martin and Lewis movies included: The Stooge (1950), The Caddy (1953), Artists and Models (1955), Hollywood or Bust (1956)
Lewis’s successful solo career included movies such as: The Delicate Delinquent (1957), Rock a Bye- Baby (1957),The Geisha Boy (1958), The Bellboy(1960), The Nutty professor (1963)The Disorderly Orderly (1964), The King of Comedy (1983)
During his career he pioneered video assist which allowed performances to be viewed and reviewed in real time with the help of t.v monitors.
For more than four decades his annual labor day telethon helped raise more than a billion dollars for Muscular Dystrophy research and treatment.
His last screen appearance was in the 2016 movie Max Rose.
