Bob Hawke Cartoon
Former Prime Minister, Bob Hawke was seen what he does best at the third test between Australia and Pakistan at the SCG this week – skolling a cold beer.
Here is Bob Hawke in all his glory, sporting the jacket he made famous in the America’s Cup where he announced “Any boss who sacks a worker for not turning up today is a bum”.
He is holding the famous “yard of ale” glass with which he set a world record for the amount of beer skolled in 11 seconds at Oxford University.
Carrie Fisher, author and actress, famous for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars film franchise died today after suffering a heart attack. Daughter of Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, Carrie became not only an accomplished actor, but writer, screenplay writer and producer. She appeared in films including When Harry met Sally, The Blues Brothers and Hannah and her Sisters. Her autobiographical book, Postcards from the Edge, became a successful movie starring Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep. Throughout her career she was plagued with mental illness and drug use which she tackled in her one-woman play and memoir, Wishful Drinking. Fisher was set to reprise her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars VIII and IX.
The Footy Show Stakes, The AFL Grand Final Show
This year saw the return of my animations on The AFL Footy Show. The Footy Show Stakes took an irreverant look at the week’s news in football in the form of a horse race. The 90 second segment featured the whose who of Australian football as well as topical pop culture and political references. The first Stakes segment received more than 337,000 hits online the night it aired.
Due to the success of the segment throughout the year I was asked to provide the animation to the opening 6 minutes of The Grand Final edition of the show. The Stakes parodies a Melbourne Cup telecast hosted by Bruce McAvaney with a special tribute in song to long time on air partner Dennis Cometti.
The race features highlights from the year’s segment together with a surprise finish which transforms cartoon hosts into their live entrance on the Rod Laver Stage.
The segment was watched by over 923,000 viewers.
